Coffee Table Bookshelf

This has to be one of my favorite builds.  I happen to read books, and I can't seem to read just one book at a time.  I will pick one up and read it for a couple days and then pick up another and start on that one.  Month to month I will have 4 or 5 books I am working my way through, which makes a real mess of my coffee table.  On top of that, my cat LOVES to knock the books off onto the floor just because....  So, I decided to design this little coffee table bookshelf.  It greatly cleaned up my table, and now my cat has nothing to play with!

I have found some very figured white oak, that is about 3" thick and 8" wide.  After re-sawing the wood down to about 3/4" I then dry it.  Unfortunately this wood really likes to twist, so I do not get to use all the wood, but I straighten as much as I can, and even get to use some good pieces that are well bookmatched with some real good figuring.  I use through mortises for the joints for the book supports, and they really give the piece great character.  I then finish it up with a danish oil to really pull out the figuring and detail in the wood.
